I have an iPhone 3GS having had two HTC smartphones previously. I hate the iPhone, which to me is an over-rated pile of garbage. The major issues are:
1. Email - I have my email pushed from an Outlook server. With my old HTC phones I could deal with my email even when I had no connection. I could read, delete, reply, etc. The phone would queue the mail then send it when it had a connection. With an iPhone none of that is possible. As soon as connection is lost the email function becomes effectively useless. That is annoying on the tube; in more remote places (where I spend considerable time) it is frankly unacceptable.
2. Connectivity - I am sorry, but no matter what other people say the iPhone's ability to connect to a signal (mobile or Wifi) is woeful. I often find that colleagues on the same network with other phones have data connections when my iPhone has none. Dreadful.
3. Battery life. Unbelievably poor even when new. I had to buy a charger for my car just to give myself enough juice to last the day when travelling.
4. Apps - hugely over-rated. Very few actually make any substantive difference. Those that do are available for other devices.
5. iTunes - you have to have an account. Very big brotherish. Means that I have ended up with unwanted software on my PC.
6. Safari - over-rated. Certainly not evidently better that competitors, but you are locked in.
7. Phone - not a great phone at all - see previous posts. I have found the same problems.

Overall, I cannot wait to be rid of it. There must be better alternatives around. I would never recommend at iPhone. Strangely enough, I am rather more keen on my iPad, though again feel that it is a hugely flawed and over-rated piece of equipment.

I just don't get Apple, which seems to me to generate poor quality products in a flashy wrapper. They remind me so much of Virgin Atlantic.
