Shady fare manipulation

Flying tomorrow LGA-IAH-SJC-IAH-LGA. No upgrade yet as a plat on an L for the SJC-IAH-LGA leg (used miles to up the outbound). Is CO entitled to try and sell the F seats instead of giving to an elite who has over 82k BIS miles this year? Absolutely.

However... In checking R availability I see that the cost of a B is $637 (rt), vs. $888 later in the week. What's odd is when I go to do a manual B search the $888 fare shows up. When I was looking at "lowest available" this magical cheaper B showed up. My hunch is that CO filed a cheapo B at the last minute for the TOD buy-up.

thoughts?
