Not sure I follow - I'm 8000 odd miles short of Plat status. If I understand right, I can purchase a refundable ticket that will normally yield 4,000 miles (after 150% EQM), and then pay a fee to double this to 8,000 miles? One LAX-EWR round trip will do.

Three questions:
1. Will this work for non-refundable tickets as well?
2. Co.com is selling a codeshare from LAX to MCO on UA. If I purchase a refundable ticket on com.com (UA metal), will this work for the triple miles work?
3. What is the non-fly option? Even if I do get the Chase Card, I don't see myself making $40,000 of purchases in December to get 8,000 miles.
