I have had the platinum Amex card for years. I decided to upgrade the card to the reserve card one month from my join date anniversary (companion certificates are issued on the anniversary date). I asked Amex whether I would receive a companion certificate on the anniversary when I upgrade and I was told I still would. However, having not received the certificate for months after, I called Amex to inquire about this and was told that since I upgraded a month before the anniversary, I would not get a companion ticket for another year (basically it would be nearly 24 months until I got another certificate from when I last received a certificate in 2009). While I don't think I should receive the Reserve companion ticket, I should have received the Platinum companion ticket based on what I was informed by the agent on the phone. I called Amex and they wouldn't do anything at first. I had my case escalated to a supervisor but I am waiting to hear back. Anyone around have to go through the similar experience?
