The other option I think is Asiana with a minimum of 40k over two years.

Well YVR-SGN will be over 7,000 miles each way. And YVR-WAW will be about 5,000 miles each way. Assuming you do a single return to each you're at 24,000 total. If you think you'll do a third trip to either destination then you can be pretty confident you'll make Elite with AC.

Given that you're going to be living in Canada that's a strong argument for accumulating with AC as it makes it more likely you'll take advantage of other benefits like upgrades or bonus miles with them.

AC's program is generally pretty good though you have to know how to take advantage of it and avoid the pitfalls. What are your priorities, Lounge Access and *G benefits? Upgrades? Reward Flights?

If you *don't* think you'll do a third longhaul then it looks like you might be short and it may not be the best choice if *G is your only priority. But if you're already at 24k after two flights it might be a good year to go for a vacation in Thailand...
