CX 889 - quick question

I know I've made a thread about CX 889 already and there are quite a few around, and I apologize in advance.

But can anyone tell me if I will need to clear immigration (get my passport stamped) when I stopover in Vancouver? My understanding is that going from JFK-HKG, passengers are allowed to leave the plane, but I am not sure if I need to produce a passport before I can get off, or if its just a waiting area that we wait in and then reboard.

Thanks a lot,
Colby1

EDIT: It will also be a cool way to get a YVR stamp as I've never been there before... will this happen?
