The location is close to a "festival marketplace" called (I think) Eau Claire Market, which has a lot of shops and a movie theatre complex. Chinatown is also close by, a short walk away, many interesting looking restaurants there although no personal recommendations. If you need to work out after all you've been eating, there's a good "Y" in the neighborhood.
If you're working in downtown Calgary, you won't need a rental car; it's pretty compact. A lovely town to spend a few days in.
I've heard good things about the Sheraton Suites but haven't stayed there. I have stayed at the Westin, also nearby, a very nice property with a very good restaurant.
