Perhaps it's the ad revenues that allow AC to continue to provide the service on a complementary basis, while most (if not all) of our counterparts are charging for it.
I agree, I'd rather have ad-supported movies than no movies. However, my lizard-evolved brain can't quite comprehend that when I'm stuck in my seat gnashing my teeth.
