Air Berlin is expected to join OneWorld in 2012. Unless there is an AA partership or codeshares before then, why would you expect to use AA miles on Air Berlin? It's only about 400 miles, so there may be cheap flights there or you can train it. The distance from Frankfurt and Munich is about 100 or so miles less.
