The rooms aren't tiny IMO. Pretty standard. Definitely smaller than the Westin, but nicer. The F&B staff are clueless. It's the 'Thai way' to ignore you, because you might ask them something they don't know & they'll lose face. I've got 4 friends who have restaurants in Thailand they have to deal with that on a daily basis. Ignore it & maybe it'll go away.
