The location of the bottles will vary from aircraft to aircraft. In the 737NG the engine fire bottle is in the wheel well (see second image). Thanks to b737.org.uk for images.

The flight crew pulls the fire switch in the cabin and this discharges the contents of the bottle into the engine.
