Wonder if any fellow flyers here have experience presenting Home Return Permit to AC at Check-in for China bound flight and whether it is accepted. With HRP, no visa is needed for entry into China - HRP essentially means you are Chinese citizen and is an acceptable document to enter the country.

I have the same situation coming up flying from YVR to PVG on AC. I was told from other flyers that HRP is acceptable at PVG airport. The only hitch is whether AC gate agent will let you board your flight with no visa as they are unable to understand the Chinese on the HRP card.

I called AC & after 15 minutes of explanation I was not given any definite answer and then I was transfered to the YVR passport office which only handle passport issue. So this was a classic wild goose chase.

So my plan is to get a single entry visa (cheapest) as insurance just to board the plane and not using it at PVG (use my HRP for entry) and save it for boarding plane next time. The draw back that visa only last 3 months.

If other better solution is out there , I would appreciate that very much.
Thanks in advance.
