I am an AC newbie and after reading this thread could not find an answer to my question.

I am not yet a Aeroplan member but intend to join in order to get a StarAlliance Gold card.

Here's my question:

If I fly 25,000 qualifying miles I still need a further 10K for Gold. So could I now burn 50,000 Priority Club points to obtain the additional 10K miles or would I be buying non qualifying miles?

My guess is that transferred miles will not count towards status but I cannot find this in black and white.
