Hear, hear!

I've both "earned" status and been comped in various programs. I was comped Gold Elite on CO a few years ago and I ended up choosing them as my primary airline; that's the point of comps - to give a loyal customer of another company a chance to audition the company doing the comping. Sounds like good business practice to me.

Personally, I am happy if someone (especially one of my friends here) gets comped. I think it's great that they get to enjoy the benefits. I don't see myself as losing any benefits - I see them as gaining the benefits. What's the harm? It's sort of like when I find out someone got something on sale that I paid retail for. I am happy for them but not sad for myself.

What's the opposite of "schadenfreude"?
