At ANC, as the agent promised, I only had to pay the $6/day facility charge -- and not the 19% tax. So it was obviously a good deal for me.

I really wish Hertz could accurately compute the fees/taxes on award reservations. Given that such expenses are a huge part of the overall car rental cost -- and would make a difference in many rentals as to whether you'd want to use your points -- it's a glaring oversight. But I'm guessing there's "no money" in this for Hertz, so it's not a programming priority.

In the meantime, I'll operate on the assumption that I won't get slammed with crazy taxes when I use my points, but I suspect at some point I'll get burned by that belief. If anyone does get hit with high fees, please post it here so we'll know to avoid that station.
