Though starwood is one of my favorite chains, I have encountered quite a few problems at Westin Shanghai. After a couple of complaints to both local management and SPG service, I have given up on it. The Westin hotel is supposed to be five-star,(category 3 or 4). However, the service is below average and there is not much special recoginition for Elite members.
I stayed there three-times this year. The first and second times, they refused to recognize my Elite level because of my replacement card was in the mail and they couldn't verify it either by calling SPG memebership services or by checking through the web. (That was after I was told by SPG repeatedly before the trip that there shouldn't be a problem.) The third time, when I asked for amenity package for platinum member, the same hotel manager had never even heard of it. He promised to get back to me later after he checked with the G.M.. Of couse I never heard from him since.
For the price it charges, Westin Shanghai has a five-star level facility (hardware), but the service(software) is pitful.
