How is it done on UAL.com? On AA.com, you can use the flight status section and enter the two cities, and it'll return the mileage if the flight is on AA metal. For codeshare flights on partner airlines, I just use gcmap or webflyer.
On ual.com and continental.com you can see the miles during the booking process. On ual.com you can also see fare class availability ^.
