And yes, if on one ticket you should certainly be able to get you luggage checked right through - there is no need to reclaim luggage and 'walk it through' as there seems to apperently be in the US.
Indeed (as it is a short same day connection) I'd expect your initial checkin agent to do that automatically, without asking - but it never hurts to confirm if you can't tell from the bag tags.
Given that you are on one ticket, if anything goes wrong due to delays, your airline will look after you (get you on a later flight, etc)
