Any way to assess upgrade chances more than 24 hours preflight?

Mrs Huge (Silver) is flying JFK-SEA late tomorrow, and is wondering what her upgrade chances are. On the SEA-JFK leg she got upgraded a day or two in advance ... am I right in thinking that the most likely time for her to get upgraded before checkin is around 5PM Eastern Time 2 days preflight?

Is there any way to get a better sense of her chances other than waiting until 24 hours preflight and checking the upgrade list then (and even then knowing that her position on the list will just drop as higher status flyers check in)?

We have other flights coming up so I just wanted to figure out the best method of checking the list...

thanks for any advice - sorry if this has been answered before (I tried to search, honest!)
