Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur (pre 2007 refurbishment)

After more than 24 hours in flight, an hour going through the various airport rituals
(customs, ATM, currency exchange and hotel transfers) and yet another 40
minutes in the limo to the hotel, I was hoping the hotel check-in would swift and
efficient. I was not disappointed. A full contingent was on duty, even at 1 AM, and
the personnel were extremely courteous and accomodating.
This hotel was truly magnificent. It's as if the designers had taken my wishlist to
pencil and paper. Marble and mahogany offset with cream coloured wall coverings,
waterfall and fountains adorned with large trees and much natural greenery, all
contained within a five story atrium boasting several mezzanines from which to
view the various goings-on below.
The rooms, all of which are located in the upper levels of a 40 story tower, are
extremely large and well appointed. They feature a marble entrance foyer, large
marble bath with separate tub and glass shower enclosure, roomy walk-in closet
with built in drawers, shelving and electronic safe. The bedroom was tastefully
decorated in a modern Asian manner with traditional British colonial accents. All
decorations were tasteful and unique, from the beautiful clock on the nightstand
to the heavy damask bedspread and draperies. The sitting area featured a sofa
from where one could gaze out the large picture window and view the rock
formations of the Batu Caves and the Genting Highlands.
Work could easily be accomplished on the large desk that featured good lighting
and a multifunctional office fax/copier/scanner. The hotel also offers, for a fee,
airport and city shuttle service using Mercedes Benz E class automobiles. This was
not your typical Sheraton, but then again it was a luxury collection property.
Cost for all this oppulence? $55 USD including a full and elaborate hot and cold
buffet breakfast that easily compared with Sunday brunch at many fine
restaurants. For $26 more, they will accomodate you on the club level with the
usual amenities including evening cocktails and butler service.
Oh, and by the way, this stay completed my required 5 for the 10,000 Starwood
bonus.
