So I've been an avid Hertz renter for years now, only renting from Hertz. Here is my dilemma:

3 weeks ago I called Hertz to rent a Ford Mustang Coupe over both Thanksgiving and Christmas break. I was issued car code D00 for both rentals, however charged $167/week for Thanksgiving while getting charged $217/week for Christmas break. The lady over the phone stated that this was a Ford Mustang. Needless to say when I got to my car (Hertz GoldClub Member) it was a Ford Fusion. I love the Fusion and have one at home, however I rented a Mustang, so I went to the counter, and told the guy what happened, said it was common, and said they were sold out of Mustang Coupe's however he had a Convertible he'd comp me for $8 more a day. Perfect, I love Hertz customer service. The guy behind the counter told me the correct car code was D04 for the Mustang coupe, subsequently telling me I needed to call customer service to get the car code changed for my December rental.

Today I called Hertz main customer service line, and the operator told me they are unable to change the car-code from D00 to D04.

My question is this - How do I change the car code? I don't want to get there again and have to negotiate more or less with the Gold counter for the car I originally rented.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
