I have had a similar experience where I had booked a wrong ticket by mistake and when i called Expedia they put me on hold and refused to honor the 24 hours policy after transferring me at least 5 times saying that it was a special fare which can not be canceled although no way it was stated during the booking process, so I called up my bank and explained them the situation that Expedia is not honoring their policy and are NOT allowing me to cancel and I was able to do a succesful chargeback. Just my 0.02c.
This is probably the best route at this point. ^
