Presumably, a place to rest until a more proper home can be found!
Aside from other priorities, IMHO, if moderators and Randy were possibly a bit more clear as to what would/will specifically be moved, why, and to where, or even simply why and where a given post would better be made ["here"] in the future, we would all get a better feel for proper posting in this new era of FT! A general comment that some will be moved tells one precious little. And no comment tells one even less, no?
Unfortunately, I also still have a few questions about some of the choices being made, such as why not to SPAM, or why not to TRAVEL/NEWS rather than MILES/NEWS and/or vice versa, why not adding a posting a comment indicating misplacement to current ongoing threads for future reference, why not issue a strong "philosophical" statement regarding proper posting from the powers that be, and so on.
Again, this will only work well IMHO, if one moves "slowly but surely", and is as absolutely consistent as possible.
To be so, clear and VERY apparent guidelines, known to ALL, is SO essential, IMHO!
Why even move all the old threads? Can't they perhaps be "grandfathered" as it were?
Why not, for the time being, perhaps just move a thread only if it's really blatantly in a truly wrong, almost damaging place and thus when there's a good and suitable example of an equally blatant and truly obvious correct place to place/move it?
Also, possibly in good compromising fashion, perhaps just adding a short note in effect as to what and why one may "please see that over there" where there's a better suited thread placed in a more appropriate forum just to discourage parallel discussions that are tough to follow for all.
Similarly a brief friendly note that "such topics are perhaps better placed in... and will very likely be closed & moved in the near future to..." would likely serve both posters and moderators folks well, IMHO.
Remember, it was the "flames" and such, and not the misplaced topics or disorganization per se, that prompted us to embark on this current era of moderators being employed, right?
As you know, I'd previously posted my sentiments regarding this issue and it boils down to essentially
"less is better"!
Perhaps we could permit "global" mileage earning possibilities to be posted in the BUZZ, since I believe that is what many FT'ers appear to want to see. Maybe the BUZZ could be reserved for such matters and we can additionally just have FT Miles NEWS reserved for NON-direct miles earning, but for only faintly related posts?
Is this possibly workable?
And I agree it is essentially the right direction and that it will ultimately help to restore FT's focus - just more slowly and surely, if possible.
Yet what to post, and where, is a real fundamental issue for folks these days.
Finding posts to retrieve already posted info, as well as to check prior to making a "new" post to avoid dup & triplicate posts is also at issue, IMHO.
A good awareness and subsequent ability to easily navigate among a huge board is proving to be somewhat complex for many including me - I fear it's a real potential nightmare.
An example I'd formerly offered was this one and if there are any thoughts/guidance on the appropriate fora to post it in, please let me know.
If AC were supposedly to be acquired by AA (and we know - that's kinda' absurd! ), does one post the info under AC, AA over in the original miles board or under "IN THE NEWS-Miles & Points" or on the nFT "Travel" board, perhaps in "TravelBuzz?"
With so many more categories, there are obviously more choices and it's tough to decide (& tough to search) and many multiple posts will likely occur and some discouragement by FT'ers who inadvertently post to the "wrong" forum and who do not receive prompt answers to their posts will increasingly occur. There will be many "errors" and possibly more and more argument over where something is properly posted! Most importantly, it will increasingly be somewhat difficult to recover the previously posted info in the future when one wants to check back to find it as posts are moved to a "proper" location. I'm afraid that the info could be hiding in so many different possible places!
Remember also please that if someone posts a link to a current thread to direct someone elsewhere for another discussion, that subsequently moving the thread in question to another fora, it will no longer be functional, right?
Also, and it is no small issue IMHO, in the interim, we have some serious "SEARCH" limitations as well. As I stated once previously, I truly feel the "what" to post, and "where," along with a viable search tool are perhaps the two most "pressing" issues now facing FT!
This is of coursem just my opinion! Thanks very much for listening and working so hard to try to help make FT a better place for ALL!
