OP, travel within Latin and South America can be quite expensive, so do consider that before booking a trans-atlantic ticket just to cross the ocean. I haven't much experience on your particular routings but my suggestion is to sort out all your routings first, as even a one-way ticket that is poorly planned within this region can cost £200+, which sounds like a big budget breaker for you. There are not many LCC that service this part of the world.

Did you forget what forum you are posting in? Budget travel is not for everyone, but many quite enjoy traveling for little expense and all the trials and tribulations that come with the experience. Not that folks shouldn't be realistic in their budgets, and the OP may not be depending on what 'wonders of the world' are being sought, but 'barely getting by' on a trip of a lifetime is still a trip of a lifetime to many people.
