Airlines have always been notorious for having the most heavily edited form of movies. That made a lot of sense when the movies were displayed on a large monitor for the whole plane and even made some sense when they were on a loop with a few channels to choose from and you had to flip through to choose. With modern IFEs it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it's not an industry known for its agility when it comes to dealing with changes like this.
The airlien version of "The Abys" had the submarine crash edited out, and don't get me started on editing out of the helicopter attack/crash scene from Die Hard with a Vengence.. "Dude, you threw that car at that helicopter" just isn't as funny when you don't see it happen.
