To share one compensation I had, which might sound unbelieveable to some;
Few months ago, a 3-night award stay at a posh PH (due to FFN), which was upgraded to a suite. In the middle of the first night, there is a water leakage from the floor above, water pouring down next to our bed.

We are moved to a huge suite in the middle of the night, keeping that one for the stay incl the extra wine bottles etc.
They ask me what they can do, and I suggest airport transfer on departure. Very good as its a 100$ cab ride, and earlier than public transport. A manager also invites for a drink.
