BNA is my home airport and this concerns me greatly as I take pictures of the screening area nearly every time I fly. I have not had the "opportunity" to engage one of the airport LEO's on this, but I need to know what to expect.
My concern is that I have been operating on the premise that the LEO's were a possible buffer against the excesses of screening clerks that exceeded their lawful authority and attempted to engage in law enforcement practices that were not part of their SOP. When a LEO must use the TSA as a source of what authority he has, rather than calling his own supervision, I see this as a problem of structure that may work against me should I ever need or face a situation when the LEO is involved.
It seriously changes the rules of the encounter and what I may expect. It is not a criticism of the officer, although my tone may have suggested that. It is a question of the process that I thought was different than these actions suggest.
