As a "bonus" for merging with Continental, United has changed the number of segments needed to become 1k to 120 per year. They did not apparently change the mileage requirement.
Short domestic flights are easily as expensive over time as the international ones, and the hassle for the flyer is a lot more.
this is a big deal "breaker" for staying loyal to United, or for that matter Continental.
