I really need help on finding cheap/affordable airfare from England pref Birmingham Int to either Rio De Janeiro or Lima or Cancun.
I figured the flight between continents will be the most expensive then I can fly between the 3 areas in South America?

I have never travelled before but after surviving and recovering from a broken neck I decided there is more to life so have decided to go travelling at the start of next year 2011, I have found "secret hotels" which will make accommodation affordable but so far all flights I have found are £700 + which is totally unaffordable, I’m guessing flights can be found allot cheaper as allot of students fly all over the world?
I have about £2000 to spend to cover flights accommodation and spending money. My plan is to see the 3 wonders of the world in these locations, as I said I want to leave in Jan 2011 but can return anytime.

I would really appreciate any help/advice/tips on this journey! Thank you all in advance
Beanyjon, welcome to FlyerTalk.

First of all, you should know than Cancun is in North America, not South America.

Second, you should be aware that traveling within South America (or between South America and Mexico) is not exactly inexpensive. They do not have RyanAir and Easyjet down there. So do not downplay the cost of your travels within the region, and make sure you factor those costs into your budget.

Further, distances are big. Rio-Lima may seems like a small trip across south America at a point where it's already starting to thin out, but it's actually pretty far. Rio to Lima is more than Birminghan to Gander, Canada. That little trip across South America is longer than crossing the Atlantic.

You also mention you want to see the 3 wonders of the world at those locations. Not sure what those are, but you will have to bear the costs of getting to those wonders. Presumably in Rio the wonders you refer to are the girls on Copacabana beach. Okay, cheap to get there, although not necessarily cheap to stay there or to enjoy the wonders. But near Lima you probably mean Machu Pichu. Keep in mind that Machu Pichu is over 1000 km from Lima (that's more than the distance from the Scottish Highlands to the tip of Cornwall). You can't just hop on a donkey from the airport and get to Machu Pichu. So don't forget to figure your intra-America travel into your plans.

To cover those 3 locations, I would plan on spending at least £1500 of those £2000 for transportation alone.

If you haven't traveled much, you may want to consider starting a bit closer to home first. Lots to see in Europe and around. Try Greece, Italy, Spain, Russia. Then venture into Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Israel. Lots to see there.
