Correct. They wont ask for a receipt. The "EZ-Pass Fueling" or whatever they are calling it, is clearly posted at every AVIS booth i've ever seen. Its up to you to present a receipt.
Not sure who "told" you that they discontinued that practice years ago, but its a relatively new practice. I'd say it started in late 2008 maybe?
Not sure why you think you're above the policy. As a posted above me said, you could have put $1.00 in gas in, and not received the charge. In fact, I've done just that. I drove 14 miles in Burlington, VT, and put in 50 cents. Got a receipt, and didnt pay $13.99.
Where does it say that you can just present a receipt of any value? I don't live in the US but will be there in Feb so I'm kind of curious about this.
