Manually changing the cookie timestamp

Having FT remember my last visit and show me whats changed since that last visit is generally great but ...

At times FT's notion of my "last visit" changes whilst I'm still in the middle of a visit. So by the time I finish reading the United updates and go back to the main page to go into Star, FT thinks nothing in Star has changed since my "last visit".

Other times like today, United is down and when IE finally gives up trying and returns to the main index, again my "last visit" is updated and there are no new posts in any forum.

The data stored in the cookie isn't exactly user-friendly when it comes to editing:

Anyone know the magic incantation needed to, say, decrease the timestamp by 24 hours?

Or otherwise is there a way to tell FT that I want to see new posts since XXXX date/time?

Thanks. (Had to do something while United is down )
