I'm actually in favour of this happening - you should either mean what you say or say what you mean. Errors can be rectified with a follow-up, typos are a fact of life on the net (you should get into an IRC chat channel and see some of the whoppers in there).

In some forums, several posters have posted all sorts of defamatory stuff, only to pop back in a few hours later and replace the whole lot - AFTER the damage has been done.

Better off this way, methinks - although I would be happy with the ability to edit within (say) a 10 minute window after posting.
