Same reason they started charging more for snacks in Y when they went cashless. The credit card companies charge .50 cents per transaction, plus up to a 2.5% fee on each transaction total.
Your quoted fees are not correct. I am now using Square via my iPhone. They charge $0.15 + 2.75%. Paypal charges $0.30 per transaction + 1.9% if you do >$100,000 in monthly business with them. I seriously doubt that AA has a worse deal than what some dude selling junk on Ebay and Craig's List can get.
