Sounds like a reasonable idea.

Living without status for 2-3 flights most likely won´t kill you, and it´s a better idea to move the investment to next year, as you´d have to requalifiy anyways.

In fact, some people use this strategy on a regular basis, i.e. doing 35k miles at the beginning of every second year (thereby qualifying early and having status for nearly two years), the same strategy is used by some SENs who do a RTW at the beginning of every third year.
