Blackberry keyboard lock change in upgrade to version 5

I have to admit that I am not very good at backing my Blackberry up and decided to do so for the first time in about a year. I was prompted to upgrade to package version 5.0.0.860 so thought I may as well. All went well with a few minor irritations (I do not like the change to the SMS function to make it look like instant messaging) but I could live with them. What drove me absolutely nuts was the change to the keypad/keyboard lock. I used to press the A* key and hold it until the keyboard locked. With the change in 5.0.0.681 that I installed (I cannot speak for any 4.x versions that may have introduced it too) holding down the A* key puts it into lock - but now to release it you have to press the mute button (instead of A*-> Call Send key sequence).

This was a huge deal for me as I always carry the phone in my jeans pocket and it was exceedingly simple to move in a certain way, usually when bending over or sitting, and take it out of keyboard locked mode inadvertantly. Apart from installing another app to circumvent this, my solution was to downgrade to a previous version (4.6.1.286) to restore the keypad lock function. I am not sure what brought the changes in, or indeed what Einstein at RIM thought this an enhancement to the product.

So, thought I would post for you lovers of the old A* function.
