SAS just informed me in writing that small, fragile stringed instruments such as violins, fiddles, mandolins, etc are now banned as carry-on items on their planes.
Their exact words were
"A violin (with normal measurements)will not fit within the maximum measurments thus not possible to bring it on board."
Nevermind the fact that a single violin in a typical case is smaller
in overall volume than probably 99% of carryons and easily fits in the overhead bins or under the seat.

It's a few inches longer than one of their allowed dimensions but is much smaller in width and thickness than even an average briefcase.
Each instrument must be checked (and will probably get smashed)

for an additional fee of $60 USD.
Just FYI to musicians who have been accustomed to always being able to bring their small, fragile and valuable musical instruments on board. Avoid SAS.
