I'm not sure you will (unless MIA is different from all other US airports), as the US expects international transits to enter the US, which means collecting bags clearing customs, entering the US, re-checking bags, exiting the US and going onto your connection.
I've never done MIA, so I'm standing ready to be corrected, but this is pretty standard at most US airports on an international connection - they haven't got that whole 'I don't want to enter the US' thing yet

I am not too sure myself, however, when I flew out to BZE from LHR via MIA in Aug 10, I didn't see my bags until I got to BZE, which was a bit awkward as I had an over night stay in MIA, but that was a while back
