It should be noted for the record that when traveling with a companion the 4-across is still better than AC or other herringbone config where conversation is impossible.
And since you have 'half' of the middle section to yourselves it does feel less awkward than, say, if you were a solo traveler and stuck in one of the inside of the 4-across.
