Position: Armed Transportation Security Officers (ATSO)

Purpose: To provide a continual pool of highly trained employees to support the mission of TSA.


Program Overview:
This program provides for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) the man power and training to accomplish the mission. The ATSO program will provide for more security on the checkpoint and rail travel. This would be at a much smaller cost to the TSA. ATSO’s would work at checkpoints and rail during a viper exercise.

Program Goals:
• Successful accomplishment of the TSA mission.
• Provide additional layers of security to guard against acts of terrorism, criminal assault and piracy.
• Provide a continual pool of qualified officers to fulfill the mission.
• Provide for National Events when needed.
• Provide a new avenue of security for rail.

This program will provide employees to be trained to engage in Law Enforcement activities such as the arrest powers, authorization to carry a firearm, the prevention, investigation, detection, incarceration, or prosecution of any person violating the law.
