Actually, the tickets are not available from the ticket vending machines at Grand Central Terminal. I assume that in GCT, you have to purchase them from a ticket agent - and before selling the ticket, the agent probably will ask for a monthly/weekly ticket.
I believe that they will not sell it for persons with round-trip, 10-trip or one-way tickets (one-way tickets inbound to GCT would have been collected anyway, on the train).
