Well, YBM-Ups are essentially discounted first class fares, especially for elites. That's what you're being offered.
I like CO, but being stingy with EUA is getting a little ridiculous here... I completely understand if they don't release R space 3+ days out if there are 3-4 F seats left, but with 8+ left c'mon...
Nobody understands how revenue management works. On a recent HKG-EWR they did clear a handful of upgrades 1-2 days before departure, but they stopped when BF was booked something like 36/50. They left 14 seats that for some reason they thought they could fill in the 24 hours before departure.

But they did clear the rest of the upgrades at the airport, about 2 hours prior to departure.
Whats more, it will make the GA's life A LOT easier if they let EUA run its course and upgrade passengers to free up space in Y rather than blocking seats...
EUA will run its course when revenue management decides to let it. It wouldn't surprise me if it happened a few hours prior to departure.
At the end of the day -- you're #1 on the waitlist and there are still plenty of seats. Just chillax.
And FWIW, lots of "complaints" on the AA forum about upgrades clearing a lot later this year.
