Now, I don't think CX should give the OP the world, but a few thousand miles or a couple of those (useless) $100 vouchers to be use on in-flight purchases sounds fair.
If the OP paid for CX and got Easyjet, then I could go along with your comparison. But come on...VS is a top notch airline, granted it might not be completely up to CX class or the pax personally doesnt like it but he paid for a LHR-HKG flight, that is what he got and was only 40min delayed.
And as per the CoC, CX is allowed to transfer a pax to another airline.
