Skipping 1K for a year - keeping status?
I've been 1K for at least 8 years (and am million-miler) on United, but other than one more flight to hit 1K this year, I'm planning to not travel at all next year unless I can do it by train. (Just called UA and canceled an April trip to Europe.)
I think my MM status will keep me gold in '12, by which time I'm assuming all this "security theatre" will have been resolved, but am I correct in assuming that there's no way other than flying in '11 to get 1K? (Can it be purchased, for example?)
But what to do in the meantime to keep FFY status alive on UA? Or am I just SOL for a year?

Reason: take rant to OMNI or TS/S - not here
