Fare rules dont really matter in this situation. As long as the origin & destination are the same, you can go same day standby without a fee.

Only exception is when the ticket is departure time restricted in the fare rules.

Other than that, if there is a seat available, they should board her.

I have heard that doing the opposite (going direct to multi-segments) is no longer allowed. No first hand experience for me.
