Oh, and btw, as a not-so side note (something I would think implied in the above), as a relatively inexperienced renter, because of the comparisons that I did a couple years back between the Sudbury National branch and their competitors, I've subsequently always thought of National as a poorly run, generally significantly more expensive brand and have consequently excluded them from my searches in other travel. I've subsequently learned that National isn't the problem, just the local Sudbury branch. In effect, the Sudbury branch hurts the brand.

Take for example the difference in one way rentals that I'll end up making with National if they don't get me the unlimited KM's. In my Sudbury to Kitchener leg, I get no free KMs and every KM at $.60. In my Kitchener to Toronto leg, I get 1400 KMs (which I wouldn't begin to use up) and $.25 /KM thereafter. As I've found, the Kitchener branch has the more common approach to one way rentals and Sudbury has an approach that the National representatives treated like it was something that they only see from someone making a one way rental in the outskirts of Lithuania. (Sudbury is essentially the capital of Northern Ontario.)

Also as it happens, and they have no way of knowing this, I work at arguably the most prestigious university in the world which does some travel business with the area (Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, Laurentian, etc.), and when talking about my journey with potential travelers, do you think my input will make or lose them money? Again, they have no way or knowing that fact (short of some routine data mining) but most business is WOM (word of mouth) so they should take that into account when deciding exactly what presentation of their business acumen they display to the public.
