Flew mid-January LAX-BOS and LAX-JFK roundtrip. Got assigned middle seats until I did e-checkin at airport. None of the flights needed volunteers. Maybe it is just my luck, I always get upgrades on the MD80s to/from Florida or elsewhere but transcon on big flights, no dice.
