It's worthwhile to note these things when asking, like if I check into a Starwood hotel if I don't get an upgrade for being Gold I ask flat out, "Are there any upgrades for gold members left?" Chances are that no, there are not, which is why I didn't get any, but it's so easy for human error to mess this stuff up.
Maybe my status was overlooked by the front desk agent.
Maybe my number didn't get added to the file when it was booked.
Maybe something happened that I'm not aware of.
In the future, you can just phrase it as a question to the agent involved so you don't sound pushy. "I am Prestige status, can you tell me if that will get me standby priority?" You may know it will but when you phrase it as a question you can prompt the agent. And if they answer no, you can say, "That's funny I thought I read it somewhere do you mind if I look it up." Or whatever.
Good advice. Will follow through next time!
