It's good that Amtrak does not publish unique sleeper fares to destinations with no sleeper service, and instead offers the seat upgrade charge (which is usually token in comparison) for any connecting segment.
There were a lot of ticked-off United flyers back in the TED days, when one could spend tens of thousands of dollars on premium cabin tickets from Europe to LAS, but spend a good 30-40% of the trip stuck in Y getting the rest of the way from the IAD or ORD gateway.

Much better to unbundle by segment as Amtrak does (even if the analogy doesn't perfectly translate for a variety of reasons).
