I've had a plain green AMEX for years. I keep rejecting the gold and platinum offers because I've never been able to justify the fee, but I think I want to move to a SPG AMEX. The problem is that I can't just transfer my green AMEX to an SPG AMEX--I'd have to apply for the SPG AMEX alone. I would then cancel my green AMEX. Here are my concerns:

1) Presumably because it's a revolving debt card, going from green to SPG would have a negative impact on my credit, and my wife and I are looking to sell our condo next year and buy a house.

2) I don't know if I would get to transfer my Membership Rewards points or if I would have to redeem them all before I changed cards.

3) I'm not sure I would have the same flexibility for point redemption among various hotels and airlines, or whether I would suffer in the ratio of points/miles received for AMEX points redeemed.
