Just look at the departure board for the track number of the next train to Jamaica. Some go express to Jamaica while others stop in Woodside / Forest Hills / Kew Gardens, so you could shave a few minutes off your trip by timing the connection to meet the next express.

Yup. When you get off the subway, after a few steps, it kind of just dumps you in the LIRR ticket area. If you look at the top of the wall with the ticket windows, you'll see a huge list of all of the stations LIRR serves and the next train that's going to each. Just look for Jamaica. You'll figure it out - not hard.
